RV Rental Management vs. Listing Your RV Yourself

Listing your RV yourself on Outdoorsy costs 20% to 25% of each booking’s subtotal, and you do every handover. An established Class C motorhome completes about 9.4 trips a year, and RVshare suggests 45 to 60 minutes of walkthrough at every pickup. A management company takes that work for a share of each booking. Here is what each route costs you, in money and in hours.
- Outdoorsy host fee: 20% to 25% of the booking subtotal; new hosts start at 25%.
- RVshare commission: not published. RVshare says the rate is based on revenue booked and shown in the owner dashboard.
- Listing is free on both. The platforms take their cut when a booking happens.
- Fireside management: Fireside handles renters, logistics, turnovers and day-to-day questions. Its split is not published; Fireside says terms vary by market and management agreement.
- Your own insurance: Outdoorsy says its coverage does not replace your personal policy, and RVshare's terms require owners to carry their own liability coverage.

What the platform fee comes to, and the hours you would spend
| RV class | Median 2-night booking | Outdoorsy host fee at 25% / 20% | Trips a year | Walkthrough time a year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Travel trailer | $268.10 | $67.03 / $53.62 | 6.7 | 5 to 7 hours |
| Fifth wheel | $428 | $107 / $85.60 | 6.3 | 5 to 6 hours |
| Class C motorhome | $450 | $112.50 / $90 | 9.4 | 7 to 9 hours |
| Class A motorhome | $580 | $145 / $116 | 8.2 | 6 to 8 hours |
| Class B camper van | $450 | $112.50 / $90 | 13.6 | 10 to 14 hours |
On a typical two-night Class C booking of $450, a new Outdoorsy host pays $112.50 in host fees. At about 9.4 trips a year, the walkthroughs alone take 7 to 9 hours, before cleaning, messages, inspections and the per-trip paperwork. A travel trailer books less, about 6.7 times a year, so the work is lighter and the fee smaller: $67.03 on a $268.10 booking.
What you would be doing yourself
- Answering renters quickly, because Outdoorsy says response time affects your ranking.
- Keeping the RV inspected: Outdoorsy requires tires, brakes, LP and gas inspected within 90 days of each reservation's departure.
- Documenting every trip: on Outdoorsy, the digital key exchange, signed rental contract, and pre-trip and post-trip photos in the app; on RVshare, Departure and Return forms with photos within 72 hours of every trip, or risk being charged twice the deductible.
- Walking each renter through the RV at pickup, 45 to 60 minutes by RVshare's suggestion.
- Cleaning, restocking and checking the RV between trips, and setting prices and the calendar.
Ask these before you sign a management agreement
- Is the split taken before or after the platform's host fee? Fireside's listings are on Outdoorsy, so the platform fee is in the picture either way.
- Who pays for cleaning, minor repairs and consumables between trips?
- Is there a minimum term, and how do you take the RV back for your own use? Fireside says personal-use dates are blocked before renters book.
- When are you paid, and what does the statement show for each trip?
Questions owners ask
Is it better to rent out my RV myself or use a management company?
Listing it yourself keeps more of each booking but you do every handover, message and turnover. On Outdoorsy the host fee is 20% to 25% of the booking subtotal, and new hosts start at 25%. A management company takes that work for a split it quotes once it knows your RV. Fireside does not publish its split.
What does Outdoorsy charge RV owners?
20% to 25% of the booking subtotal, starting at 25% for new hosts, with a minimum of $15 a night for drivable RVs and $10 for towables (Outdoorsy help center, read 2026-10-08).
What does RVshare charge RV owners?
RVshare does not publish its booking commission. It says the rate is based on revenue booked and is shown in the owner dashboard. It does publish a 10% commission on most post-trip fees.
How long does a renter handover take?
RVshare suggests about 45 to 60 minutes to walk a renter through the RV at pickup, on every trip.
